Auburn Memorial Hospital “iSuites” Enhance Surgical Safety, Efficiency
“Our new operating rooms complete yet another improvement in Auburn Memorial Hospital’s ongoing efforts to stay ahead of the curve and become one of the top community hospitals in the nation,” stated Scott A. Berlucchi, FACHE, NHA, President/Chief Operating Officer.
“I’ve worked in other hospitals and surgery centers, and these new operating rooms are the best I’ve seen,” stated Dr. Gregory Ripich of Surgical Services of Auburn.
Each of the three new integrated rooms features overhead Stryker Equipment Booms for lighting, high-definition (HD) monitors and anesthesia, providing surgeons with a more accommodating and efficient work area. The “iSuite” is designed to maximize a surgeon’s control of the operating room. The SwitchPoint Infinity system integrates the HD camera, Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS), Image Guided Surgery and other systems together. The technology is all managed through a simple interface. The entire room set-up can be saved for later recall using Room Presets to maximize efficiency.
The iSuite can be reconfigured from doing a shoulder or knee arthroscopy case to a gastric bypass case rapidly. An on-site project manager customizes each iSuite to the needs of the hospital, creating an advanced operating room with increased capabilities for patient care.
“Our new ORs and technology enhancements have provided us with the opportunity to accommodate more surgeries and provide our surgeons with the kind of technology many of today’s more complex procedures require,” said President Berlucchi. “The result is that more patients can stay home in Auburn rather than traveling out of town to have more complex procedures performed.”
The new operating rooms are part of the $8 million HEAL NY construction project which was completed in early 2009. Half of the funds came from a New York State grant while the other half came from Auburn Hospital System Foundation, the Emerson Foundation, the Allyn Foundation, the Columbian Foundation, the Metcalf Foundation and the French Foundation.
