Mukesh K. Sharma, MD
Dr. Mukesh Sharma an accomplished Cardiologist has rejoined Auburn Community Hospital where he practiced from 2003-2012. Dr. Sharma spent the last seven years in Fayetteville, North Carolina as a cardiologist at the VA Medical Center and was also teaching medical students at Campbell University in North Carolina.
Dr. Sharma is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Nuclear Cardiology. Sharma did his internship in Internal Medicine at the Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York and his residency at Jamaica Hospital an affiliate of Cornell University. In addition, Dr. Sharma received his Fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Daniel Zakhary, MD
Daniel Zakhary MD, PhD, trained as a
Biophysicist at Case Western in conjunction
with the Cleveland Clinic, and currently
practicing as a board-certified cardiologist,
specializing in cardiac arrhythmias and
electrophysiology. His basic science expertise is
focused on the areas of protein phosphorylation,
cellular signaling, and molecular imaging.
Dr. Zakhary’s research over the past 20 years
has resulted in more than a dozen publications
in peer-reviewed journals. Specifically, his
research expertise includes molecular
biochemistry, protein transport, and localization
within cell-signaling pathways, enzyme
pharmacokinetics and molecular modeling, and
also fluorescence spectroscopy and SPECT/
PET nuclear imaging. He has taught, lectured,
and consulted within the realm of physiology
and biophysics, and has applied these scientific
principles and results to clinical practice, having
further trained in the specialties of Internal
Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Clinical
Cardiac Electrophysiology.
Dr. Zakhary is currently a practicing
cardiologist and electrophysiologist in New
York, well well-versed in arrhythmia mapping and
catheter-based ablative procedures, management
of anticoagulation, and all aspects of Cardiac
Rhythm Monitoring devices including non-
invasive and ambulatory surveillance
technologies.

Jay Varanasi, MD
Dr. Jay Varanasi was born and raised in New York State. After completing his undergraduate studies in Boston, he earned his medical degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine. He then pursued training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC. Following this, Dr. Varanasi completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology in Massachusetts, further honing his expertise in advanced cardiac care.
Dr. Varanasi began his interventional cardiology practice in Greensboro, NC, in 2006, where he served for 18 years in a well-established cardiology program. During this time, he gained extensive experience and took great pride in delivering high-quality cardiovascular care to his patients.
In 2024, Dr. Varanasi returned to New York to help establish a cardiac catheterization program in Auburn. This opportunity allows him to bring his skill set to a community where such specialized services were previously unavailable. By expanding cardiac services, Dr. Varanasi aims to ensure that patients in Auburn and the surrounding areas can access exceptional cardiac care locally, contributing to the improved health and well-being of the community.

Our Cardiovascular Laboratory is equipped to perform a variety of diagnostic procedures for patients with known or suspected cardiac disorders. From cardiac studies and echocardiography to stress echocardiography and electrocardiography, our skilled team of board-certified cardiologists, echocardiographers, and registered nurses work together to deliver accurate diagnoses and valuable insights for treatment planning.
We utilize advanced technologies to obtain critical diagnostic information for precise and efficient care. Our facility is equipped with ultrasound imaging for detailed visualization of the heart and related vascular structures. We commonly use electronic processing of electrical impulses from the heart and brain through EEG and EKG, which provides valuable data for diagnosing cardiac conditions. We also have the capabilities to perform nuclear stress tests using nuclear isotopes to help evaluate the effects of a heart attack and other cardiac conditions.
